Out of This World Storytime: Solar System II



Introduction: A Stem Storytime that gets children thinking about our solar system and the different weather patterns found on each planet listening to the story, Solar System Forecast by Kelly Kizer Whitt. Children explore their creative side with beautiful, unique galaxy stones. Provide pictures and books showcasing the beautiful colors and designs of galaxies.

Craft:

Art: Galaxy Stones

Supplies:

Acrylic paints (black, blues, pink, purple, white)

Small foam brushes

Fine-tipped paintbrushes

Paper plates

Instructions:

Prep:

  • Paint the rocks with black acrylic paint. Allow time to dry.

  • Put each paint color on a paper plate.

Instructions:

  • Give each child a black-painted rock.

  • Starting with the darker colors first, children can dab the various paints onto one side of their rock to create their own galaxy. They can use the fine-tipped brushes to make dots of white on the rock to represent stars or planets.

  • Place each rock on a paper plate to dry. Acrylic paint dries quickly. Purpose:
