Introduction:
This Storytime is developed specially for infants to 23 months old and their parent/caregivers. This is an interactive program between you and your baby. Enjoy 30 minutes of books, songs, rhymes, fingerplay, toys, and socialization with other young babies.

Age Range: 0 to 24 months old.
Skills Supported: Print awareness, motor skills, visual tracking skills, and socialization.

1. Introduction:
Hello, welcome to lap-sit storytime. My name is Ms. Debbie and with me is Ms. Peggy. We are both so happy to see you are here today. We encourage you all to participate and to do the rhymes and songs with your children. You know your children best, so if they are not in the mood, don't force them, but do encourage them. Sometimes whey they see you joining in, they will too. We expect a fair amount of craziness during storytime, but that is okay. If your child becomes disruptive, please take him or her out of the program room and join us again when your child has settled down. Don't feel bad, it is okay. Let's start with our opening song.

3. Early Literacy Aside: Explain
Today's literacy tip is on Print Awareness. As your sing, talk, read, write, and play with your children every day, you can support your children's prereading (early literacy) skills even at this early age, in enjoyable ways. Help your child become comfortable with books starting now by letting them handle books. This helps children understand how books work. Knowing how to handle a book before starting school allows them to concentrate on learning how to read. This is one aspect of the skill you can do to support it even with our youngest children. Let's now enjoy an action rhyme. (Ghoting and Martin-Diaz, 2013, pp. 99-100)

8. Early Literacy Aside: Example
As you read books with your babies, encourage them to explore the book with you. Your babies might bat at or hit the pages. That is their way of reading the pages. (Ghoting and Martin-Diaz, 2013, p. 103).

12. Early Literacy Aside: Empower
As you talk about the pictures in books with your children at home, it is helpful to take the time to show them the real item, if possible, you should point to the picture. This is a key part of print awareness - the picture is not the real item; it represents the real item. Later they will learn this with the text of words as well. I have a book cart of great books on our theme, Things that Move, that you and your child might enjoy together (Ghoting and Martin-Diaz, 2015, p. 104).

14. End of Storytime Activity:
Pass out scarves and egg shakers to parents/caregivers. Parents wave them so babies can follow the motion of the scarves. Books will placed on the rug for those who would like to read to their children.
