Regardless of the time of year, beach ball is a fun interactive storytime that will be well received by toddlers and preschool children.
Literacy skill: Letter knowledge. Letter knowledge is knowing that same letters can look different and letters have names and represent sounds.
Toddler Parent Letter: Summer
A fun way to start the summer is to make the program room into a beach. Place beach towels around the story rug and have kids sit on the rug. Read the story, Where is baby's beach ball: A lift-the-flap book by Karen Katz.

Action Song: (song to Hokey Pokey)
You dip your toe in You dip your toe out You dip your toe in and you jump and scream and shout! (shout: It's so cold!) You do the Cold Water Pokey And you turn yourself around That's what it's all about! (clap! clap!)
Poem:
Summer, summer
time for fun.
We run all day in the hot, hot sum.
Summer, summer
Jump in the pool.
Eat a lot of ice cream
To keep cool
Alphabet Beach Ball Game
An inexpensive beach ball and a permanent marker are all you need to make this fun learning game. Inflate the beach ball and use the marker to print uppercase letters all over the ball of all the children's first letter of their first name. As an example: "D" for Debbie, "P" for Peggy and so on. Toss the ball and have the person who catches the ball say the letter name closest to or under one hand or just have them say the letter of their name.

Beach Ball Puzzle:
