1. Storytime Introduction

Welcome to Toddler Storytime. My name is Ms. Debbie. I am so glad to see you today. Our Storytime is designed to be participated by everyone. We will share books, rhymes, and songs with your children. We encourage everyone to participate, but no worries if this doesn't happen. Sometimes when a child sees you participate, they might join in, but if your child is not in the mood, that is okay too. Our Storytime can tend to be a little chaotic, but that is okay too. If your child becomes disruptive, please take them outside the program room and then join us again when your child has settled down. This is normal, it is part of the process. So let's start with our opening song.

2. Opening Song

How Many Friends are Here Today

How many friends are here today?

How many friends are here today

Let's count it out!

Let's clap it out!

Let's dance it out!

There are ______ friends on their feet!

Now it's time to take your seat!

(No Time For Flash Cards. 2016, January 30).

3. Early Literacy Aside: Explain

Songs are awesome ways to learn about language. In addition, clapping along with the beat helps improve motor skills and helps children learn the sounds in words. Songs also teach new words and introduce new ideas and concepts. It doesn't matter if you can't sing, with your children sing any chance you have: at home, in the car, or during a walk. It also develops listening and memory skills.

4. Action Poem:

Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate (five fingers up) The first one said "Oh my it's getting Late" (Hands on Cheeks) The second one said "There's a chill in the air" (arms around self) The third one said "But we don't care" (swing pointer finger) The fourth one said "We're ready for some fun!" (hand in air) The fifth one said "Let's run, run, run!" (running motion) So woooo went the wind, and out went the lights, And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

6. Shakers

Shaker Song -

Sung to the tune of “London Bridge”

Lyrics:

Shake your shakers, shake, shake, shake,

Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake

Shake your shakers, shake, shake, shake,

Shake your shakers!

Other Verses:

Shake your shakers high, high, high,

Shake your shakers  low, low, low,

Shake your shakers  fast, fast, fast,

Shake your shakers  slow, slow, slow"

7. Balls:

Today, we have pumpkin duckies to play with. Can you hold them? Let's all feel the balls. What do they feel like? What sounds do they make when you squeeze them? How can you play with them? What shape are they?

8. Action Song:

One Little Pumpkin Tune: Mary had a little lamb

One little pumpkin rolled round and round (rolling arms) Round and round, round and round, One little pumpkin rolled round and round, For this is Halloween

Two little goblins hoped up and down (hoping up and down)

Round and round, round and round,

Two little goblins rolled round and round,

For this is Halloween

Three little skeletons walked down the street (walking)

Round and round, round and round,

Three little skeletons rolled round and round,

For this is Halloween

Four little witches flew threw the air (arms out at side pretending to fly)

Round and round, round and round,

Four little witches rolled round and round,

For this is Halloween

9. Early Literacy Aside:

Parents, children learn language by listening to you and others talk and joining in the conversation. As children listen, they learn new words and what they mean. The first step in being able to read the word “pumpkin” is hearing it again and again and again. If you speak two languages in the home, it is beneficial to speak both languages to your child. Very young children can understand spoken words before they can speak them. So talk talk talk!

10. Action Song

Pumpkins

Tune: Are You Sleeping

Pumpkins are growing Pumpkins are growing In the patch In the patch Look at all the pumpkins Look at all the pumpkins Orange and Round Orange and Round

(Borden, L. n.d.).

13. Early Literacy Aside: Empower:

Don't expect your toddler to sit still for a book.Toddlers need to move, so don't worry if they act out stories or just skip, romp, or tumble as you read to them. They may be moving, but they are listening. (Reading Rockets, 2018).

14. Closing Song:

Goodbye Bubbles

(Librarian will blow bubbles while the parents/caregiver and children sing the song.

Lyrics:

Goodbye Bubbles

Goodbye Bubbles

Time to Go

Time to Go

I will help you

I will help you

With a blow

With a blow
