Introduction: This Storytime is developed specially for children five to eight years olds. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to attend the program. Enjoy an hour of reading and a STEM activity once a month.

Introduction: This program is designed to teach children how they can take recycle paper from their home and make new paper. Each child will be asked to bring in paper from home for this project.

Make Recycle Frames. See the Parent/Caregiver Resource Pathfinder page for directions. on how to make the frames. It took our library about two weeks to make ten of them.
Set up room with five stations. Cover tables with plastic tablecloths.
Tablecloth's on each table.
Shredders on Table 1, Blender on Table 2, five tubs with water on table 3, felt, sponges on table 4, nothing on table 5.
Instructions:
Children will come to program with their recycled paper from home. Have some extra recycling paper from the library for those who forget to bring it.
Have children put their paper on the recycling table.
Children sit down at the story rug to listen to the nonfiction book, Recycle! by Gail Gibbons.
How can we help with the problem with landfills?
Children will watch the video on paper is recycled at a plant.
Explain now we are going to recycle our own paper. Explain the rules, and introduce the volunteers.
Explain what will take place at each table.
Have kids go to table one and help shred paper. Each child will take a large pile of shredded paper to table 2.
