Staff/Volunteers: Librarian and 10 volunteers.
Objectives of Lesson:
Children will demonstrate an understanding of non-print resources while researching an assigned animal.
Children will demonstrate an understanding of inquiry-based learning as they answer specific questions about their animal. (Appearance, movement, location, food, shelter and habitat.
Children will demonstrate an understanding of a subscription database and how to navigate through it.
Children will demonstrate an understanding of how to read facts and put in their own words and answer questions.
Children will demonstrate an ability to work in teams to answer five questions about an animal.
Common Core Standards:
Language Arts: Writing - Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
Science: Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive.
Technology: Perform basic searches on databases, (e.g. library, card catalog, encyclopedia) to locate information.
AASL Standards:
Build new knowledge by inquiring, thinking critically, identifying problems, and developing strategies for solving problems.
Work effectively with others to broaden perspectives and work toward common goals.

Instructions
This is an inquiry-based research project where children will use a database to answer five questions about an animal of their choice.
Children will be put in teams of two.
Children will be taught using the Super 3 research strategy.
Children can listen or read information about each animal on the PebbleGo database.
Teen and adult volunteers will work on a one to one basis with children.
Teen and adult volunteers are facilitators and will help children through the process of learning how to read a fact and writing it down on paper.
Children will take their 5 facts and write a paragraph about their animal
Children will be shown how to print a picture of their animal
Children will share what they learned on the last day.
